A comment by Damian Bennett on Apology ♠ Excuse

M. DF, I hate trolls who swan in to splash a little kerosene and have a smoke. Your post on the outrageous and silly comments of M. Galouzeau/de Villepin deserved better. But the thread was taken off topic early on by this Officer Dan, who becme the thread topic. And what message is Officer Dan burning to tell? Why, U.S. soldiers are "dying for nothing in Iraq". And what constitutes Officer Dan's nothing? Why, there are no WMDs. This is the tiredest of tired cant. Officer Dan presents his credentials for his comments but then his comments belie his credentials. Officer Dan, a superficial and misspoken reader of Sun Tzu, has missed the instructive footnote on the Duke of Sung. For fellows like Officer Dan the world is still a pre-09.11 tea party. For Officer Dan there is no Q.E.D. There is only rant and a private pathology for attention. Dear God, and here I am writing about Officer Dan when M. G/deV is patiently waiting with his hand on offer, which neatly brings me back to the original plaint. M. G/deV's soft boneless hand hangs unshook. Absent from your post was this bomphiologia from M. G/deV: ""We have shown our constant willingness to put forward ideas to our American friends since the start of this tragic crisis. We have always told them what we thought was the right way." M. G/deV went on to say that France remained a "friend and ally" [of America, presumably] and would continue to offer "solidarity, ideas and courage." So, who will take M. G/deV's hand, a hand chock-a-block with with "solidarity, ideas, and courage"? DGB
