People who enjoyed their experience here, sometime take the time to express it by signing the guestbook, which I truly appreciate. However the world being what it is, every now and then some totalitarian apologist pops up over there. And they hardly appreciate their experience, of course.
They usually fall into one of two distinct categories:
- The Boorish Bolshevik, who will dribble a vulgar babble in an approximate English or French (yeah, no matter what their mother tongue actually is)
- The Idiotic Ideologist, who will more or less carefully make up a few 'facts', and more or less secretly expect that you will take their claims for granted (and possibly start crying, issue a quick disclaimer in large red bold font, and take the pilgrimage to Lenin's mausoleum on your knees.)
It's not as if these people were really making a point anyway.
Take for instance the following, that I kept both for the sake of the example and because frankly, (s)he is so out of his/her
I came hear (sic) after I saw your banner. 1.5 million Iraqis died under the UN sanctions and 100,000 have died since the invasion. In contrast, it is believed Saddam caused the deaths of at most 40,000 people. I'm pretty sure the Iraqis do mind.Well, if any of them happen to inhabit that fantasy world of yours, yes, I bet they probably do.
Having said that, I suggest you work out on your agitprop program. I mean seriously, I admire your efforts to reverse and rewrite history but 40,000 is still too big a number.
That might still stir some animosity against Saddam the Saint, and surely, we don't want that, now do we?
'Tell you what, next time just say that he only killed 1 or 2 blokes, at most. You could add that they were not really in a bad shape anyway. In fact, you could even say that he did them a favor because, see, they were 'somewhat very terminally ill.'
Or something like that.
Find some good nasty sickness that's really impossible to cure and make sure it's one that's really very Oh-so painful (at that point, as a bonus, you could even add a bit of "yeah, and that's because of the US pharmaceutical industry that refuses to give away drugs for free". In fact that's even better, as that would mean Saddam was left with no other choice and forced into it by the US. See how the pieces all fall into place?)
But don't choose AIDS though.
Last thing we need is Saddam the Saint being accused of homophobia now do we? You know how those right-wingers are.
Also, you should definitely boost the other side's numbers as well. That's a good and much tested tactic. See those UN/US slaughter numbers? Let's skillfully raise them, in proportions that will inevitably trigger public outrage and compassion while retaining the necessary amount of credibility. Let's say 150 000 000 000 000 000 000 dead caused by the UN sanctions. Okay, maybe just 150 000 000 000 000 000. We want to be credible, now do we?
Accordingly, let's put the Coalition total at 100 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000. 'f course, those US Marines Nazis' part makes up for 99 99999999 9999999 999999999 999999999 999999999 99999999 9999999 of it all okay? (What arithmetic? I'm telling you about innocent Iraqis butchered by US Nazis and you answer arithmetic? What kind of cold-hearted right-wing robot are you?)
There you go.
Saddam the Saint: 2 (who were very terminally ill because of the US pharmaceutical industry by the way)
UN/US: lotsa mega trillions literally murdered to irremediable death.
... Or so "it is believed, in contrast."
Nice and dandy. I shall start crying any minute now.
How's life at the university by the way?
