I had just enough time to do a bit of fixing, before full blogging resume on Thursday. So here it goes:
- Reworked the two "login" links (in the red bar on top and at some pages' bottom) following the reports that these were not working for some users. I'd appreciate if people like tinga-tinga and floridasuzie who had problems accessing the login form could give it a try and let me know if the link gets you somewhere now.
- Rebuilt the mechanism creating entries excerpts in the search engine's results. On rare occasions, and depending on the nature and length of some entries, the previous one could trigger a blank page instead of the expected results. I also added a keywords highlight feature.
- And since I still had a bit of spare time, I put up a ranking system in case some of you want to quickly express their interest or their indifference for my posts. See the five stars next each entry's title, and click the "vote" link to cast your ballot.
Anyway, kindly let me know if I introduced more bugs than I squashed. I said kindly. Okay?
Update
Friendly advice: never thwart a Marine (even a former one) or a Texan. So as requested by Mike and Val, the comment form now has a preview button.

Log-in buttons work great now, thanks Frog!

Is this the wish list?
Can I have a preview button for Christmas?
I am, for real, a typistically challenged person. When I sprain one of my index fingers I'm reduced to half speed and accuracy.

Pas grave, on s'y fera. Que ceux qui couinent contre les bugs essaient de faire mieux s'ils en sont capables. Et de toute manière, ce n'est pas un service payant, personne n'a de motif valable pour se plaindre, donc :).

You've been so generous to us with the new dacha, I hate to ask for any thing. But I second Mike's request for a preview button. Only if it doesn't mean a great deal of work for you. Otherwise, we soldier on without it.

Suzie: glad to know it works. You can start yelling at your computer and calling it names again.
Mike, Val: your wish is my command. Check the update at the end of the "Houseworks" post. Oh and, I put that up quickly so let's say it's "beta".
Let me know if weird things happen, okay?

DF - This is probably a very stupid question, but I noticed that when I commented on the post before this one, next to my avatar is a German flag. Can you tell me why that is? I am in Europe just now till the end of the month, but I'm certainly not in Germany.

Frog,
re: "Suzie: glad to know it works. You can start yelling at your computer and calling it names again."
Will do, though I have to keep in mind H.A.L. is self-aware and doesn't take kindly to my yelling at him ;) I have to use reverse pyschology on him and all that stuff, he's a pain... oops, I forgot he can read his own screen, I didn't mean it HAL! I'm sorry! HAL is king of the universe, all hail HAL <bowing>

P.S. I just remembered, the French version of HAL was CARL, for anyone French who didn't get my lame joke :)

I tried it - still no luck!
Register still fine - everything else seems to react as it should when I click. Maybe my security settings for firewalls and such are too tight for whatever you're using (javascript?).
Thanks. Sorry for the trouble.

Ah, Merci Mr. Powercoder! A most excellent apparition to be found at the bottom of the edit window. Alpha at the least but good enough for production.
