My 20 years of work in Iraq's nuclear-weapons program and military industry were partly a training course in methods of deception and camouflage to keep the program secret. Given what I know about Saddam Hussein's commitment to developing and using weapons of mass destruction, the following two points are abundantly clear to me: First, the U.N. weapons inspectors will not find anything Saddam does not want them to find. Second, France, Germany, and to a degree, Russia, are opposed to U.S. military action in Iraq mainly because they maintain lucrative trade deals with Baghdad, many of which are arms-related.This is from Khidhir Hamza, in his article published in the WSJ OpinionJournal today.
Mr. Hamza, is the former director of Iraq's nuclear-weapons program. In this article, he has lots of other interesting things to reveal.
Apart from the fact that the famous empty chemical-weapons warheads were empty precisely because it's the only way to store them, we also learn that cutting weapon deals with Saddam when you're either French, German or Russian is a very lucrative activity.
When you come to La Douce France® to buy a $50 million nuclear reactor and end up paying it $200 million, a rapid calculus gives you more than $150 million of profit margin.
And when the Germans and the Russian take their share of the blood money as well... Guess who's going to fiercely oppose the liberation of Iraq and the safety of the whole world?
Just a thought after reading Mr. Hamza's article: considering that Mitterrand's carcass is sickening the maggots for quite some time now, all he can face is the national indignity.
But Chirac, Jospin and most of the French rulers who where in charge over the past 20 years can still face the International Criminal Tribunal.
Can't they?
