But that isn't the half of what they said! But the tip of the iceberg. It's all perfectly scrumptious, in a perverted, deluded sort of way:

If someone exploded a bomb on his body he would be right to do so unless the British government apologizes and withdraws the 'sir' title," ul-Haq said, also urging Muslim countries to break diplomatic ties with London.

***This is generally known as murder, or blackmail, of course, or both. And you are who to dictate to the British government? Naturally Britain's heart would be broken.

"If Muslims do not unite, the situation will get worse and Salman Rushdie may get a seat in the British parliament."

****Please, please! Someone literate, intelligent and informed in the House of Commons! Alas, it cannot be, he's a bloody writer, not a pollytickian (parasite on the body politic).

After his comments were reported on local news networks, ul-Haq clarified to lawmakers that his aim had been to look into the root causes of terrorism.

*********Bwahahah.

Lawmakers voted unanimously for the resolution although one opposition member, Khwaja Asif, said it exposed a contradiction in the government's policy as an ally of Britain in the war on terrorism.

****With friends like these...

Robert Brinkley, Britain's high commissioner to Pakistan, defended the decision to honor Rushdie for his contributions to literature.

*****Good. Poor bastard, what a job.

....

At the Multan protest, Asim Dahr, a student leader from the group Jamiat Turaba Arabia, demanded Rushdie face Islamic justice.

"This queen has made a mockery of Muslims by giving him a title of 'sir.' Salman Rushie was condemned by Imam Khomeni and he issued a decree about his death. He should be handed over to the Muslims so they can try him according to Islamic laws," he said.

***Oh well, that's that, then. Never mind the small matter that the late unlamented has no jurisdiction in Britain, and never did have.

Sigh, we went through all this with the Vatican. In 1688. Same gig: the jurisdiction of the Faith transcends national boundaries.

And I do declare that no foreign prince, person, prelate, state or potentate hath or ought to have any jurisdiction, power, superiority, pre-eminence or authority, ecclesiastical or spiritual, within this realm.
(English Bill of Rights, 1689)

Or as Voltaire put it:
…it's because of thinking that Sweden, Denmark, the whole of your island, half of Germany groan under the terrible misery of no longer being subjects of the pope.
[…….c'est pour avoir pensé, que la Suède, le Danemark, toute votre île, la moitié de l'Allemagne, gémissent dans le malheur épouvantable de n'être plus sujets du pape]
