I don't resent paying taxes to fund necessities - I do resent it when pork-barrel projects are slipped in to budget items, hence one of the biggest reasons why government is more expensive nowadays. Check out http://www.porkbusters.org/.
Fiscal responsibility is the duty of every elected official - the public gets put thru the wringer should we dare to miss the deadline on filing our taxes (a system which has become so complicated, by the way, that a whole industry was created JUST to help taxpayers file on time and correctly - it shouldn't be like this!)
