Batista wasn't loved. Castro still isn't one of the good guys. The US military withdrew its support of the 1961 landing at the 11th hour. Enemies of the US will use whatever they can get their hands on. Cuba and Vietnam were setbacks, but the aftermath for the victors was anything but positive.
