But I'm working on something you know.
Something that will exist thank to the generous people who support(ed) the dissident frogman by donating with the Paypal button on the left or buying in the stores.
A fine new dacha for the dissident.
Thank to you... My American friends.
La Grande France? End of the story. It's History.
(1) Here's my question: Under the Constitution of the Fifth Republic, if there's a popular backlash against Chiraq's policy, how could he be removed from office? I believe Monsieur le President has a fixed term, so if he chooses not to resign, are we stuck with him till he dies or his term expires? Or is there an impeachment process the Parliament can use to remove him from the IraQuai d'Orsay (or is it the Elysee?)?It's the Elysée. His left testicle is at the IraQuai d'Orsay.
Despite all his efforts, Chirac is not de Gaulle. This means that, just like Mitterrand, he will never resign. I could bet... You know what, on that, and still be sure I won't end up with my dick in the wind, just like France.
I'm not an expert on the Constitution of the Vth Republic but article 68 is pretty self-explanatory:
The President of the Republic is responsible for the acts accomplished while in office only in the case of high treason. He can only be prosecuted by the two assemblies, enacting by an identical vote, on a public ballot and at the absolute majority of the members; he is judged by the High Court of Justice.Keeping in mind furthermore that the president can dismiss the National Assembly I would say that as far as the French people is concerned, the president is God's bro.
And you can't impeach God's bro in France. That's the rules.
Considering as well that the foundations of the French political class is Oligarchy and Nepotism, after the internship at the ENA and keeping in mind that Mr. ChIraq won the hearts and minds of every politicians from the left to the right with his "courageous" stance in favor of "peace", I'd say it's safe to assume that even if it was proved that Saddam didn't want French WMDs and Jacques convinced him to take them nonetheless... Nothing, I repeat, absolutely nothing will happen.
Locally, of course.
(2) A related question: Assuming a quick war, with the 'Willing' feted as liberators, and Saddam either removed head-on-pike by Iraqis or going down in a despicable 'scorched earth' defense, how much would it take to turn the French people against Chiraq?Alas Paul, I'm afraid you forgot the fourth answer, which would be my prognostic:
> If he were found taking bribes from Saddam? [Or would the voters say, 'We knew he was a crook when we voted for him!'?]
> If he were found to be co-ordinating policy with Saddam or explicitly subordinating French policy to Iraq's?
> If he were found to have personally allowed French companies to build up Saddam's WMDs, in return for oil contracts?
Hmmm, Might be a subject for a discussion on your website.
> The French, being now this nation of chickenhearted and rancorous perjuries craving for the peace of the slaves would just say 'We knew he was a crook when we voted for him!' and keep blaming the USA, no matter what.
I can't chide you for forgetting this one though: you'll have to live here to believe how low some French can go.
But it could be a good subject for a discussion indeed.
Anyway, thank you David.
Now, who will come up with the "We Back Aznar" banner?
But Sal is also a professional journalist for an Italian daily who would like to post an interview of an Iraqi dissident journalist exiled either in Europe/France or in the USA. If this means "you", I warmly invite you either to email me, and I'll forward your message to Sal, or to go to Sal's blog, Il Bersò where you'll find his email address, among other topics of interests.
I'm focusing on my new dacha that will fix these problems too. Please stick with me.
In your dreams.
It's been written, unwritten, rewritten. I've been looking around, documenting myself.
And I've been thinking about it. A lot.
Gestation is long, deliverance will be difficult but it's coming.
And I cherish the idea that it will be the inaugural post of my new dacha.
Please stick with me.
In the meantime, I'm offering you this updated version of my Mecca Cola spoofed website, triggered by the aforementioned mail and an... Interesting breakthrough (it's not fresh news, but it's always good to recall Tawfik "Liar" Mathlouthi's malpractices.)
