I've just eased up the password rules. When you created a member account, the system was asking you to use a (more) secure password (made of at least 1 number, 1 uppercase and 1 lowercase letter), and this restrictions should be removed now. You can use your dog's name again; even if that makes all security experts in the world scream bloody murder. If you've already created an account under the previous regulation, and would like to revert to a password easier to remember, you can change it from within your control panel.
Finally, a practical advice: in this day and age of codes and numbers, you'd definitely make your life easier by using a password manager. Free and open source or commercial and cheap, pick your poison and let The Machine remember those pesky passwords.
Update
Just because the question arised: make sure you keep note of your password. Even with the highest level of control on the system, I can't look up members' passwords.

Took me several tries to get it to accept mine. With the plethora of spambots and hackers security is becoming rather intrusive everywhere. I like the old system better. Someone breaks into your domicile you break their arms. I have been yearning for some bright geek to develop an electronic Claymore mine for these hacker pieces of crap. But so far, no joy.

Your recommendations for password managers are not very useful for us mac OS X users.

Dave: Indeed, but that's because I don't use Macs, and would rather not give advices in matters I know little about. I mean, if I have to look stupid at some point, might as well be for something I did on purpose, right?
So while I know a thing or two about the good Dr. Jobs' OS (I could for instance advise the citizens of Jobstown NOT to drink the Kool Aid), the available choice of password managers for this fair platform is not among them.
I'll now leave the mic to any Mac user who feel like stepping in.
