Extracted from a very moving and supportive email from Jill G. :We just learned that my friend's brother was refused service at three restaurants in Paris because he was an American. I just hope we Americans can rise above this pettiness and show the world that we forgive even the rudest of people. Please don't. Anybody snubbing an individual because of his nationality, his government's policy, his ethnic background or God knows what, is not worth a dog sh*t on a Paris pavement (that would be the worst dog sh*t ever).
So don't forgive them.
On the contrary, I engage you and your friend's brother to enjoy a long and relaxing sarcastic laugh at the simple idea that, when any given American who decide to boycott French products is just using his right as a consumer in a free market economy, these morons, refusing the sale, are working against there own interest.
I think I remember writing that Pierre le French wasn't very smart: these three are begging for bankruptcy and unemployment.
And that gave me an idea: I just thought that the boycott being orchestrated by the American public has but one little flaw. It can only target the big French corporations.
But the small Pierre le French who bans customers from his greasy spoon just because he thinks he's making a pertinent point on world affairs may get through this.
It's unfair.
So, being such a nice helpful guy and all, I think it is my duty to help Pierre "We don't serve the Yanks" le French to reach the bottom of the barrel faster.
Since they apparently don't want to see Americans at their place anymore, I intend to launch a new campaign and, without shame, take advantage of my recent status of trustworthy French voice towards the American public, to help my fellow citizens who want to get rid of those damn Yanks for good.
It's not all of them, of course. There are decent people out there who would be either pro-American or, at the very least, be honest enough to treat their customer impartially, no matter where they come from.
So basically, I intend to maintain a list of openly anti-American businesses, such as these three shameful restaurateurs. And of course, we won't limit ourselves to restaurants.
The only problem will be to smartly discern between your average French trader unfriendly with every foreigner, and the full blown anti-American variety.
Not an easy task but we'll deal with it anyway.
I need you to populate this list. email me the names and addresses of the hostiles businesses (even a partial address, I can find the missing information from here) and a few lines depicting the "incident".
Please precise if you're involved or just witness.
And let's call this campaign: "Small businesses, big losses. Boycott hostile French small and medium-sized firms".
I'm working on the graphics; there will be buttons and banners for all your propaganda needs.
You're going to love it. I already do.
Oh, just a reminder: sale refusal is an infraction in France. Although I personally consider that this legal disposition exceeds broadly the role of the State, it does exist. Use it.
